物語は13歳の少年・正樹が殺された事件から始まる。死体は町の中心にある橋の下に無残に捨てられ、小さな町はたちまち不安と恐怖に包まれた。正樹の同級生である春・晃・朔・直哉は、犯人は正樹がよく遊びに行っていた怪しい老人・おんさんに違いないと家に押しかけ、揉み合いの末、1人がおんさんを殺してしまう。そして彼はおんさんの家に火を放ち、事件は幕を閉じた。22年の時が過ぎ、刑事になった晃は父の死をきっかけに帰郷。春・晃・朔は再会するが、同じ場所で少年の死体が発見され、それぞれが心の奥にしまっていた事件の扉が開き始める。。When Isabella Tree and her husband arrived at the rural estate they had inherited and saw the vast swathes of farmland that came with it, they immediately saw how sick the land was—entire habitats destroyed, bird and plant species gone extinct, fields saturated with chemicals.
